Bawumia discusses global peace & security, climate and developmental issues with US Ambassador to the UN

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Tuesday, December 5 welcomed to the Jubilee House, Her Excellency Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations (UN).

Madam Thomas-Greenfield is in the country for the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference.

Their discussion touched on many areas, including Ghana and the United States shared values and principled positions on the Security Council, such as global peace and security, climate and developmental issues.

Dr Bawumia expressed delight over the choice of Ghana as the host of the 5th UN Peace Keeping Ministerial Conference the first on the African continent.

During the opening of the conference, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, also expressed Ghana’s appreciation to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General for the selection of Accra,  as host of the conference.

In her welcome address at the opening of the event, which is taking place at Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, on Tuesday, December 5, she said: “I wish to express my appreciation of the government and the people of Ghana the UN Secretary-General and all member states of the special committee on peacekeeping reposed in Ghana to host the 5th UN Peace Keeping ministerial meeting in Accra which is the 1st on the continent of Africa.”

She added that “the challenges we face demand sustained commitment and collaboration.I urge each participant to translate the insight gained and the commitment made during our time together here into tangible actions that will contribute to peaceful and global peace and security.”
