Bawumia discusses global peace & security, climate and developmental issues with US Ambassador to the UN

Ghana‘s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has expressed Ghana’s appreciation to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General for the selection of Accra, the capital of Ghana as host of the 5th UN Peace Keeping Ministerial Conference.

This meeting in Accra for the first time in Africa, she said.

In her welcome address at the opening of the event which is taking place at Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, on Tuesday, December 5, she said: “I wish to express my appreciation of the government and the people of Ghana the UN Secretary-General and all member states of the special committee on peacekeeping reposed in Ghana to host the 5th UN Peace Keeping ministerial meeting in Accra which is the 1st on the continent of Africa.”

She added the “challenges we face demand sustained commitment and collaboration.I urge each participant to translate the insight gained and the commitment made during our time together here into tangible actions that will contribute to peaceful and global peace and security.”

The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia welcomed later welcomed to the Jubilee House, today December 5, 2023, H.E. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Ambassador to the UN, who is in the country for the UN Peace Keeping Ministerial Conference.

“Our discussion touched on many areas, including Ghana and the United States’ shared values and principled positions on the Security Council, such as global peace and security, climate and developmental issues.”
