9 Hot Issues from the show on May 19

On Sunday, May 19, 2024, Keminni Amanor sat with the Director of Electoral Services of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Dr Serebour Quaicoe for a chat on TV3’s Hot Issues.

Many issues came up for discussion. Here are 9 of them:

1. VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE
   Anybody who has followed our elections will know that the technical challenges happened in 2020 when we decided to go for the new biometric verification devices. But it turned out to be a successful election.

2. VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE
The EC has one of the best BVDs in the world in terms of speed and accuracy in determining voter identity. Posterity will judge us.

3. VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE
Going offline is part of voter registration process, so it’s not something new. We did more offline registrations in 2020 than in 2024.

4. STOLEN EC EQUIPMENT
Every information we have has been given to the Police to aid in investigations. The key suspects have also been handed over to the Police for prosecution.

5. VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE
Apart from the initial hitches, the process has been very smooth. We have gone beyond 50% of the projected figures we were looking at. Every qualified voter will be registered.

6. BUSING OF VOTERS TO CENTERS
We are advising people against busing people for registration because if they are found culpable of any offense, the facilitators will also be affected.

7. VOTER REGISTRATION CHALLENGES
The Greater Accra Region has more cases of people challenging the registration of prospective voters with a total of 524 disputes.

8. STOLEN EC EQUIPMENT
We are cooperating with both the Police and the Special Prosecutor on the stolen items. All the suspects are temporary staff.

9. COMPLAINTS BY NDC

My grandmother told me something, don’t try to wake up someone who is pretending to sleep. You cannot wake up such a person.
