WAFU B U17: We don’t need to underrate Benin – Laryea Kingston

Ghana U17 coach Laryea Kingston has warned against complacency as his team gears up to face Benin in their second game of the WAFU Zone B U17 tournament.

The Black Starlets were off to a flying start in their opening game against Ivory as they recorded a 5-1 victory on Thursday.

In their next game against Benin which comes off on Tuesday at the University of Ghana stadium, Ghana would progress to the semi-finals with a victory.

Laryea Kingston is however cautious ahead of the game.

In football, you don’t need to underrate your opponent. We’re favourites and we know that but that will not make us complacent. We have everything to play for because all that Ghanaians are expecting from us is qualification to the AFCON. We’ll respect our opponents but keep to our principles,” Laryea Kingston said after the team’s final training on Monday.

The Ghana U17 side have shown promise in their previous games as well as securing crucial victories in the build-up to the tournament.

Ghana are hoping to reach the final of the tournament and bounce back to the U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) having missed out since 2017.
