Ghanaian goalkeeper Joseph Anang leaves West Ham after seven years

Ghanaian goalkeeper Joseph Anang will leave West Ham United when his contract expires in July 2024, marking the end of a seven-year tenure with the club.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper born in Teshie, Ghana, moved to London where he progressed through the youth ranks to become the club’s third-choice keeper.
During his time at West Ham, Anang gained valuable experience through loan spells at Derby County, Stevenage, and most recently, St. Patrick’s Athletic.
At St. Patrick’s, he played a pivotal role in helping the club reach the Conference League qualifying rounds. Anang also featured once for England’s U20 side in 2019.
Despite his potential and development, Anang found limited first-team opportunities at West Ham. His contract will officially end in July 2024, marking his departure from the club.
Last summer, Anang was joined by fellow Ghanaian Mohammed Kudus, who established a fruitful companionship with him. While Anang struggled to secure playing time, Kudus emerged as a crucial player for the Hammers, scoring vital goals across all competitions.

The managerial change at West Ham, with David Moyes being replaced by Julen Lopetegui, offered Joseph Anang a glimmer of hope for his future at the club. However, the club’s plans appear to exclude him, prompting his imminent departure.
As Anang looks ahead to the next chapter of his career, his experience and skills gained over the years at West Ham and during his loan spells is expected to serve him well in his future endeavours.
