Outpatient departments in Korle Bu Teaching Hospital closed

All outpatient departments at Korle Bu teaching hospital are not working following the nationwide strike by organized labour.

Walk-in patients have no option but have to turn back because they will not be attended to.

The hospital is only attending to patients already on admission, but outpatients are shown the exit.

Although there is hint of the suspension of the strike by organized labour, Chairman of the Health Services Workers Union, Caesar Bawa, said they are yet to be directed accordingly by leadership.

With this, the strike still persists at the premier hospital. “We were given letters to commence the strike, so until a letter is given to direct us to suspend the strike, the strike still holds,” he added.

On a normal day, outpatient departments are mostly packed with patients and relatives, but the story is different as a result of the strike. The surgical, medical, child health, accident, maternal, polyclinic OPDs are virtually deserted.
