‘No development in Dome Market, no vote’ – Traders threaten

Some traders at the Dome Market have threatened to boycott this year’s general elections over government’s failure to develop the market.
The market, which was established about two decades ago, to contain about 1,000 traders has not seen any major facelift to accommodate the teeming number of traders who ply their trade there.

Speaking on TV3’s community manifesto, the traders said despite promises and assurances by the Municipal Assembly and politicians to give the market a facelift, the busy market is now chocked with filth.

“We don’t want any private contractor to build the market for us, we want the government to do it. If the government does not build a market for us, then we will not vote during the 2024 elections,” some of the traders cautioned.

Former Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Mr Kwao Sackey explained why there’s been lack of development.
“If you watch the foundation, the idea was to raise it before we do the pavement, but the administration just went and did the pavement. So, when it rained, water runs through the market. I will urge the administration to go back into the drawings, and the layout that have been done for the market,” Mr. Kwao sacky explained.

He further urged the Ga East Municipal Assembly and leaders of the market to work together to ensure the needed revenue is accrued for the development of the market.
“Politicians should know that market leadership should be worked with. I never changed the leadership that I came to meet so when you work with the leadership of the market, you will be able to get good results because they understand their people,” he urged.

The dome market is one of the fastest growing business centers in the city.
