Expedite disbursement of District Assemblies Common Fund – Okaikoi Assembly Members urge gov’t

Assembly Members in the Okaikoi Constituency have called on government to expedite action in the disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund allocations.
Speaking on TV3’s community manifesto, the local representatives said the consistent delay in the disbursement of the funds, which is an indispensable tool for them to address diverse needs of their respective electoral areas, makes it difficult for them to fulfill their mandates.
“If now in the history of Ghana, the Akufo-Addo- Bawumia government is saying that there is no money to be disbursed to the assemblies, how do we develop more projects in Okaikoi North? Uncompleted projects are now at the mercy of the weather.
So, we are pleading on them to do something about it for us,” the Assembly Member for Anumle Electoral Area pleaded.

Meanwhile, with the growing demand for accountable and responsive local governance, traders at the Achimota market have called on the district assembly to utilize the revenue generated from market tolls to ensure infrastructural development.
“The sanitary condition in the market is very poor and we need security personnel to patrol the market for us. So, they should use the market tolls to do so for us,” a market woman requested.

In a related development, as the nation prepares for the December polls, the youth in the constituency are calling for peace.

“We are not like the youth years ago. We are all educated and we know that we are the leaders of the community. So, if we fight, who will protect our parents? Therefore, I can assure you that there’s not going to be violence here. But we won’t sit down for people to come and cheat us too,” Eric Ofori Aryeetey a youth leader of Abofu cautioned.

The message from the youth is clear; unity and a violence-free election will further propel the country’s democracy.
