We belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him, we return – Bawumia mourns Auntie Muni

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has mourned the passing of popular waakye seller Auntie Muni.

Auntie Muni’s demise, according to the family, occurred Wednesday, January 3, 2023, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Accra after a short illness.

A son of the popular waakye seller, Arafat, speaking to the aforementioned media house said she will be buried in Tamale today, Wednesday, January 3 according to Islam tradition.

“Mummy was sick, she was complaining of pain, so we took her to the SNNIT Hospital…., there was complications, so she asked that they discharge her.

“When they discharged her, after two days, we realised she was still not feeling well, so we rushed her to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for medical attention and this morning at 3am she passed away,” Arafat disclosed.

In a Facebookpost, Dr Bawumia said “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him, we return. I received the news of the death, this morning, of Aunty Muni, our nation’s famous Waakye seller. My condolences to her family. May Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her Jannah.”

Dr Bawumia previously on Thursday, 19 November 2020 bought waakye from Aunti Muni at the launch of the country’s Universal Quick Response Code (QR Code) system in Ghana’s quest to attain a cashless society even in the informal sector.
