Honeymoon comment: Mahama is not ready to be president, vote for Bawumia – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communication of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, has said that former President John Dramani Mahama is not ready to govern the country as president.

In his view, a comment by Mr Mahama to the effect that he wants labour unions to give him a honeymoon period if he wins the elections this year shows he is clearly not prepared to take over as president.

Mr Mahama had indicated that he was restraining himself from making promises because the country’s coffers had been depleted by the Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking at a ‘Campus Connect’ event in Hohoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer stated that Ghana is broke at the moment.

“This country is broke, and, so, we will beg you that when we come into office, give us a bit of a honeymoon. Let’s put things in place so that we bring the economy back onto its feet,”he said.

“And I will plead with the teacher union: GNAT, NAGRAT, UTAG, and TEWU and all of them; I know all of you are clamouring for allowances.

“Let me caution you that in 2025 when we take over, we will show you the books and the finances of this country, and when we have done that, we can accede to your demands again, and that’s why I’m being very measured in the promises that I make because we all know the crisis in which this country has been plunged,” he further indicated.

In a post on his X platform , Mr Ahiagbah said “H.E. Mahama wants a 4-year honeymoon in the unlikely event that he wins the election hmmmm.

“Would you employ someone who says please give me a job, but you must also allow me a honeymoon period to understand the job? This is what JM is asking. Hmm H.E. Mahama is just not ready. He is only trying to talk his way into power. Please let us not bother with talkers, we need doers. Reject H.E.Mahama  Vote for Dr Bawumia because he is a doer.”
