Black Queens face uphill battle for Olympic qualification after defeat to Zambia

Black Queens suffered a setback in their quest for Olympic qualification, falling to Zambia in a 1-0 defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The highly anticipated clash saw Zambia’s Kundananji delivering a decisive blow with a spectacular chip in the 18th minute, securing the lead for the Copper Queens.

Despite Ghana’s impressive form, winning 10 out of their last 11 matches, they were unable to overcome Zambia’s early advantage.

Notable efforts from players like Doris Boaduwaa and Evelyn proved insufficient to turn the tide in favor of the Black Queens.

Now facing a 1-0 deficit, Ghana have a tough mountain to climb in the return leg in Ndola if they are to keep their Olympic dreams alive. The crucial second leg will take place on Tuesday.

The game against Zambia proved to be the toughest test for Nora Hauptle who is credited from transforming the team to playing exciting football. Under the Swiss tactician, the team have now lost twice in 12 games.

The only other game the Black Queens suffered defeat was the final leg of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) against Zambia. They were beaten 1-0 after securing a 3-1 victory over their opponents in Accra.

With the disappointing outcome recorded, Hauptle is expected to reorganise the team to stage a comeback on Tuesday.
