Cost of Astro turf is huge but it is worth it – Robert Tetteh Coleman

The  CEO of Wembley Construction, Robert Tetteh Coleman, has said astro turf is more costly than natural grass fields, but the cost-benefit makes astroturf worth it and preferential.

He stated that astro turfs can even be rented out for other activities apart from football in order to rake in additional revenue.

“Certainly, astroturf costs more than natural grass but eventually, if you do the cost-benefit analysis you will certainly know that it is better for you to do astroturf than natural grass,” he said when asked about the cost of constructing astro turf in Ghana against the natural grass, while speaking on the Sunrise show with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Monday, February 26.

Robert Tetteh Coleman added “If you have the natural grass and you are doing the construction, if you have about one million cedis you should be able to do a standard pitch with the natural grass but with an astroturf, the grass itself, you are talking of talking about 2.3 or 3.5 million cedis.”

He added “If you want the ancillary facilities like the floodlight, the fencing, the spectator stands, the changing room, it also adds to the cost.

“So I can say that when it comes to the astro turf the cost implication is huge but when you do the cost-benefit analysis, and the fact that you can also rent out to make money.”
