Super Bowl champ Ekow Boye-Doe returns home to Ghana to inspire next generation

Ekow Boye-Doe, a cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs and recent Super Bowl champion, has arrived in Ghana, coinciding with the country’s 67th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
This trip marks a special occasion for Ekow, as he returns to his homeland after several years away, following his journey to the top of the NFL.
Born in Accra, Ghana on November 4, 1999, Ekow’s family migrated to Lawrence, Kansas in the United States when he was young. Like many African families, education was prioritised, and sports were viewed as a distraction. However, Ekow’s passion for American football remained strong, despite his parents’ initial disapproval.

Ekow’s journey to the NFL was not without its challenges. He faced numerous rejections and setbacks, including a failed attempt to secure a free-agent contract.
Nevertheless, he persevered and eventually earned a spot on the Kansas State Wildcats football team. His hard work paid off, and he went on to play in 42 games with 35 starts, including starts in each of the final 27 games he played for the Wildcats.
After receiving an invitation to Kansas City’s rookie minicamp, Ekow seized the opportunity and entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Chiefs in 2023. He played six games in his debut season and then went on to win the Super Bowl Championship in 2024.

Now, Ekow is back in Ghana, eager to share his story and inspire young people to chase their dreams, just as he did. He plans to embark on a tour around the country, speaking to children and sharing his experiences. For Ekow, this trip is an opportunity to teach the next generation that with resilience and determination, anything is possible.
“I’ve got a few other things planned to talk to the younger kids and hopefully inspire them, if you have a goal set for yourself, never give up on it, just keep believing in yourself,” Ekow emphasizes. “The sky is the limit.”
During the #SuperBowl, the @nfl ran a commercial about a little boy in Ghana dreaming of playing pro football.
