Appointment of Yohunu as Dep IGP is preparation of the grounds to remove Dampare – Security Analyst alleges

IGP Dr George Akuffo Dampare

A Security Expert Richard Kumadoe has alleged that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s appointment of Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations is part of a conspiracy to remove the IGP Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

The appointment of COP Yohunu was announced in a press statement released by the Director of Communications at the Presidency Mr Eugene Arhin on Wednesday, July 17.

“This appointment is pursuant to the advice of the Police Council at its meeting held today, Wednesday, 17th July 2024, during which COP Yohuno’s exceptional credentials and dedication to duty were acknowledged,” the statement said.

It added that COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno is a distinguished law enforcement officer, with a career spanning over three decades, and has held various key positions within the Ghana Police Service.

“President Akufo-Addo extends his heartfelt congratulations to COP Christian Tetteh
Yohuno on his well-deserved appointment, and wishes him the very best in the discharge of his duties,” the statement said.

Commenting on this development on the Hot Hot Edition on 3FM on Wednesday, July 17, Kumadoe said “This feeds into the conspiracy theory that they are preparing the grounds for the removal of the IGP.”

For his part, a former Police officer who is currently lawmaker for Wa West Peter Toobu said on the same show that the current IGP needs experienced hands to support him to manage the elections security this year, hence this appointment.

“Probably, the President is looking at the fact that we are in an election year, and he is seeking to empower people to support the IGP to deliver,” Mr toobu said.
