AshantiGold fans beg for club’s return as GFA suspension drags on

Fans of AshantiGold have made a heartfelt appeal to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to lift the club’s indefinite suspension.
The Miners, once a powerhouse in Ghanaian football, have been sidelined for over a year due to a match-fixing scandal.
The fans travelled from Obuasi to the GFA’s Ordinary Congress in Prampram to voice their frustration and hope.
The suspension followed a match-fixing controversy involving Inter Allies, leading to AshantiGold’s relegation to a lower division. While some players involved had their bans overturned, the club’s former president and vice president were handed lengthy suspensions.
Despite legal challenges, AshantiGold have been unable to overturn the suspension, with the GFA citing the club’s continued association with the banned officials as a violation of football regulations.
The fans, who knelt before GFA officials, expressed their willingness to start anew, even if it means playing in the lower division. They stressed the importance of football to the people of Obuasi and its positive impact on the community.
