Atletico Madrid sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea

English midfielder Conor Gallagher has completed a move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £33 million.

The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Spanish La Liga club.

Gallagher, a Chelsea academy graduate, made 90 appearances for the Blues, scoring 10 goals. With his contract set to expire next summer, Chelsea decided to sell this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

In his farewell message on Instagram, Gallagher expressed his gratitude to Chelsea for the opportunities and memories he had during his time at the club.

“To everyone at Chelsea, thank you for making my dreams come true,” Gallagher wrote.

“It’s been an absolute honour every time I put on the shirt, and it was a dream come true to captain the team on many occasions.

“I loved every moment. These memories will last forever. I appreciate all the love and support from the fans.”

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are also close to signing Portuguese forward Joao Felix from Chelsea on loan.

The two clubs have reportedly agreed on a fee for the 24-year-old, who scored four goals in 20 appearances during a loan spell in west London in 2023.
