‘Beating Kotoko has never been a problem’ – Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford

Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford says beating Kotoko was not a problem despite their splendid form in the Ghana Premier League.

The Kpando-based led by former Kotoko coach Bashir Hayford, triumphed over the formidable Kumasi-based side, ending their impressive seven-game unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors struggled to maintain their splendid form as they faced a determined Heart of Lions side.

The turning point came in the 52nd minute when forward Godfred Asamoah Kwadwo netted the decisive goal, securing a well-deserved victory for the home team.

Adding to Kotoko’s woes, defender Nicholas Mensah received his marching orders in the 59th minute after a second bookable offense, further complicating their chances of a comeback.

Speaking after the game, Bashir Hayford expressed confidence in facing Kotoko, citing past encounters with different teams.

“As for Kotoko, I have faced Kotoko with other teams and facing them hasn’t been a problem for me. From Kessben to Medeama and AshantiGold, I haven’t encountered any problem facing Kotoko,” Bashir Hayford said after the game.

“So I told them, [Heart of Lions] it is a big team but there shouldn’t be any fears and they did exactly that. The fact that it is one of the biggest team in Africa doesn’t make them unplayable.”

The victory proved to be a significant turning point for Heart of Lions, propelling them from the bottom of the table to 15th place with 18 points after 18 games. Hayford’s strategic prowess and the team’s determination showcased a remarkable transformation under his leadership.
