England FA backs Gareth Southgate to stay beyond Euro 2024 final

The England Football Association has expressed its desire for Gareth Southgate to remain as England manager even if the team loses the Euro 2024 final against Spain on Sunday.
According to reports from the UK, internal discussions have already confirmed the FA’s unwavering confidence in Southgate, who has now led England to back-to-back European Championship finals.
His current contract expires in December, but a decision regarding his future is expected to be made in advance.
Despite growing speculation that Southgate might step down after the Euros, especially given some fan discontent with his leadership, England’s remarkable journey to the European Championship final in Berlin has reinforced the FA’s belief that Southgate is the best person for the job.
The 53-year-old manager has kept his future plans beyond Euro 2024 a secret, adding to the uncertainty in recent months.

There have been suggestions that Southgate may be considering a return to club management regardless of Sunday’s outcome. He was once a contender to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, but the Dutchman has since signed a new deal at Old Trafford.

If the Three Lions boss decide to leave his position, potential successors include Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe, Mauricio Pochettino, and Graham Potter.
Southgate aims for perfect performance against Spain
Ahead of the final, the manager is focusing on delivering a ‘perfect’ performance from his team.
“They would be rightly favourites for what they have done this tournament. They have been the best team,” he admitted. “They have got a day longer, and in the past three finals, maybe more, it has been quite significant, so we have got to get our recovery spot on.”
“Tactically, we will have to be perfect as they are such a good side. But, you know, we are here,” he added.
England, who lost to Italy in the final of Euro 2020, are determined to redeem themselves on Sunday. Meanwhile, Spain, three-time winners of the Euros, have maintained a perfect record in this year’s competition, defeating every opponent in regular time.
