Ghana FA changes venue of Black Stars’ training camp ahead of AFCON 2023

The Ghana Football Association has announced a change in plans for the Black Stars’ training camp ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Originally scheduled to camp in South Africa from December 31, 2023, the four-time African champions will now be based in Kumasi, Ghana, starting from Tuesday, January 2, 2023.
The decision was made following a review meeting between the Management and Technical Team of the Black Stars. The technical team requested a quieter and more secluded training environment, which led to the change in location.
As a result of the change in plans, the international friendly match against Botswana, which was scheduled to take place on Monday, January 8, 2023, in Johannesburg, has been cancelled.
Ghana FA is currently seeking a replacement opponent for the team as part of their preparations for the tournament, which will start on January 13 2024.
The training sessions in Kumasi will be closed to the public and media, except for a single session that will be open to the media. A post-match press conference will also be held after the friendly match.
The Association has urged the public to understand and support the decision, stating that it is necessary to ensure the success of the Black Stars during the camping period.
Ghana are in the same group as Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, and will kick off their campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, followed by matches against Egypt on January 18 and Mozambique on January 22.
