Ghanaians say enough is enough – Ablakwa welcomes threat of strike by organised labour

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu and sole crusader against the sale of 4 hotels belonging to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Rock City Hotel Limited has expressed joy at the announcement by organised labour of a nationwide strike action on Monday July 15.

He said the strike action is an indication that Ghanaians have had enough of the shortcomings of the political class.

“Total shutdown by Monday. Not even the courts will work. Ghanaians say enough is enough,” he posted on his X platform on July 12.

The post comes after organised labour declared a nationwide strike from July 15 to back their demand for the termination of the contract.

It would be recalled that Rock City Hotel Limited won a bid to sell 60% stake in 4 hotels owned by SSNIT. The hotels are; Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, and Labadi Beach Hotel.

It later emerged that Rock City Hotel Limited is owned by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

Mr Ablakwa who brought this to light, posited that it smacks of conflict of interest. He therefore petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and followed it up with a massive demonstration to protest the transaction.

Meanwhile, the Managment of Rock City Hotel has withdrawn its bid for 60% shares in the hotels. The withdrawal of the bid comes on the heels of the threat to strike on Monday, July 15 by organised labour.
