Manchester United defender Jonny Evans could stay at the club longer than initially expected, as discussions for his contract extension have commenced.

The 36-year-old Northern Ireland international returned to United last summer from Leicester City, eight years after his first departure from Old Trafford.

Jonny Evans initially joined United during pre-season training to maintain his fitness. However, his impressive performance under manager Erik ten Hag earned him a one-year deal.

During the last season, Evans made 30 appearances, including a substitute appearance in the FA Cup final win against Manchester City at Wembley.

The club have confirmed that they are also in talks with goalkeeper Tom Heaton regarding a new deal and have offered a contract to 19-year-old forward Omari Forson.

Forson made his Premier League debut in February’s 4-3 win against Wolves, providing the assist for Kobbie Mainoo’s winning goal at Molineux. Despite making six further appearances, Forson has yet to be persuaded to sign a new deal at the club.

If Evans’ contract extension goes through, he will remain one of the most experienced players at Manchester United, providing valuable guidance to the club’s younger talents.

With 379 Premier League appearances, Evans is considered one of the most seasoned defenders in England. He has made an impressive 228 appearances for Manchester United, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists.
