Kelechi Iheanacho reveals why joined Sevilla

Kelechi Iheanacho has joined Sevilla FC, marking the club’s fifth signing of the summer under new coach Garcia Pimienta.

The Nigerian international arrives on a free transfer after spending the last seven seasons with Leicester City. He has signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year.

In his first interview with the club’s media, Iheanacho expressed his joy at joining Sevilla FC, saying, “I’m really happy to be here. The last 24 hours have been stressful, but I needed to get everything sorted quickly. I’m very excited and happy to be part of this club.”

He also mentioned that Sevilla FC was his top choice, despite receiving offers from other clubs, “Yes, there were a lot of offers, but Sevilla had a clear vision for what they want from me and why they brought me here. In terms of football, the environment, everything—I was certain I wanted to come here. I’m ready to embrace it and give it my all.”

Iheanacho emphasized that he is not focused on individual goals, but rather on the success of the team.

“The goals are not really personal because, of course, I could set targets for myself, but the most important thing is the team. Together, we can achieve great things this season. We just need to give 100% in every game. Whatever the outcome, we keep pushing, no complacency, and keep going every single match. Hopefully, we’ll be near the top of the table and go far this season.”

After successful spells with Manchester City and Leicester City, Iheanacho, will be hoping to hit the ground running in his new challenge in Spain.
