Mahama cautions NDC against infighting; asks all members to focus on 2024 campaign

Former President John Dramani Mahama has told all members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to close their ranks and put aside all their differences as the party seeks to win this year’s elections.

He cautioned the members of the party against infighting and rather channel their energies into the 2024 election campaign.

He said this while addressing a gathering attended by some traditional leaders in Sogakope as part of the ‘Building Ghana tour’ in the Volta Region on Thursday, January 11.

He said “I remember when we were little children when we go out and one of us gets involved in a fight we all go and joined the fight and it is only when we come home that we ask what happened.

“So let us put it aside like brothers do and fight the battle ahead, when we finish with the elections we will ask why we are fighting and then we will resolve the issues. In any case, time is not on our side so let us not drag this reconciliation process, we need to focus on the campaign, we can’t spend all the time reconciling ourselves until the election is upon us. The train is moving and everybody should get on board.”

Mr Mahama further told all traditional rulers that they are welcome to join the NDC in finding solutions to the problems that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has created.

In his address, the flagbearer of the NDC said “I want to thank our chiefs and queen mothers who have joined us here beautifully dressed in their traditional attire, it is not everywhere we get that chiefs and queen mothers come and join us, we want to thank you for spending your time with us this morning.

“Because as you are aware all of us are part of Ghana and we are feeling the pain, I am sure that you the chiefs and queen mothers are feeling it more than us because life is hard for your people, when they can’t pay their school fees or when there is no food in the House it is your palaces that they come to come and beg for food and ask for money.

“So you are very welcome to join us in seeking the solution to the challenges and the problem that the NPP has sunk our deal nation Ghana into.”

The Minority Chief Whip, Governs Kwame Agbodza who also spoke at the gathering said that voters in the Volta Region would protect their votes in the 2024 elections.

He said in doing so, they will meet whoever foments trouble boot for boot.

“Volta Region is ready to protect the ballot, Volta Region will not be a crime scene. You can change the security chiefs, make yourself the IGP or army commander, if you step foot in the Volta Region and attempt to rig the elections by hurting anyone, I will not tell you what to do, but write your will down before you come here. …We shall not start any fight because of election, but if anybody starts a fight, we shall complete it,”  Mr Agbodza said.

After a two-week break for the Christmas and New Year festivities, Mr Mahama is currently in the party’s  stronghold-  The Volta Region.

The former President, who is seeking a second and last presidential bid will be engaging stakeholders  in the region on how effectively he should serve the people of Ghana in the midst of the prevailing economic crisis.
