NDC chastises EC over technical challenges during district level elections

The National Democratic Congress,  NDC in Ashanti region has chastised the Electoral Commission (EC) for what it described as incompetence during Tuesday’s district level elections.

The party indicated that the infractions have the tendency to mar the democracy of the country.

“Almost all the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti region have some electoral areas that couldn’t vote yesterday. This shows clear incompetence of the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission. If the district level elections could come with challenges, we don’t know what will happen in the 2024 general elections. We must keep an eye on EC to ensure it delivers as expected, “regional deputy secretary for NDC, Baah Acheamfuor during a media briefing in Kumasi.

Voting in 281 out of the 1,087 electoral areas in the Ashanti region has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 21, following non-readiness of election materials.

The development left many electorates who were eager to exercise their civic duty, disappointed.

Some candidates also described it as unfortunate as they claim all the food they prepared for their agents had to go waste.

The NDC claimed the new date for the election was deliberately chosen to coincide with their 24-hour economy walk.

“We prioritize the elections more than the walk so as to keep an eye on happenings at all the electoral areas, although it is not partisan”, Baah Acheamfuor indicated.
