NPP PC for Cape Coast North petitions Akufo-Addo for removal of Chairperson of UCC Governing Council

Prof. Harold Amonoo-Koufi is the Chairman of the UCC Governing Council

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Cape Coast North, Horace Ekow Ewusi, has petitioned President Akufo-Addo to remove Professor Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi as the chairman of the University of Cape Coast governing council.

In his petition sighted by 3News, Ekow Ewusi contends that Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi posits a “disturbing conduct” which he said is affecting the smooth running of the University.

He has also requested for an investigation to be done into the conduct of the Chairman of the Governing Council.

According to the Parliamentary Candidate, Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi’s conduct “demonstrate that he is seeking a personal agenda than the one that he was brought in for which is the collective interest of the University thereby affecting our chances of winning the seat.”

Horace among several other reasons accused the Chairman of acting as a dictator and makes “unilateral decisions without recourse to members of the University Council.”

“He has repeatedly taken it upon himself to make unilateral decisions, including solely responding to a petition on an advertisement without seeking input from other members of the Governing Council. Additionally, he has had clashed with two major unions (UTAG and GAUA), the convocation and the Board of convocation of the University. Attached as Appendix 1 to 3 are copies of the responses written by Prof. Harold Amonoo-Koufi to these bodies,” the petition said.

He further accused the Chairman of making several attacks against the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong since his assumption in office.

“The attacks on the Vice-Chancellor have caused a lot of tension and division within the University community. Faculty and staff of the University, who form the base of our party, have expressed concerns about the sudden turn of events since Prof. Harold Amanoo-Kuofi assumed office and the potential impact this has on the University’s reputation,” he added.

Although the Parliamentary Candidate says he has no personal issues with Prof. Harold Amonoo-Koufi, he believes his reasons cited will negatively impact the party’s chances at reclaiming the Cape Coast North Constituency in the upcoming general elections.

“Your Excellency, I am compelled to request the immediate removal of Prof Harold Amonoo-Koufi as the Chairperson of the UCC Governing Council in the interest of the University. This measure will help restore peace on the University’s campus, create a favourable environment for the faculty and staff members, and for a successful campaign in the December 2024 elections,” he noted.
