Queen Mothers from all 16 regions acquaint themselves with Legislative Processes in Parliament

Queen Mothers Association from all 16 regions has taken an interest in acquainting themselves with the Legislative Processes in Ghana’s Parliament.
Members of the association were taken through the fundamental Parliamentary Processes of the House, functions of Parliament, and how traditional authorities and their communities can participate in parliamentary democracy.
The queen mothers were also hosted by the Rt Hon Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, in an interactive session.
In advocating for fair representation of queen mothers in the National and Regional House of Chiefs, the President of the Association and the Paramount Queen Mother of the Nkonya Traditional Area, Nana Otubea ll, underscored the integral role played by queen mothers in the traditional governance systems.
However, they are often excluded from decision-making processes. They prayed such identified gaps were addressed.
The Speaker in his address recognised issues of gender disparity in our traditional governance institutions and indicated that their concerns would be presented to the Committee on Gender and Children.
He added that the Affirmation Action Bill, yet to be passed by Parliament also seeks to remove such discrimination and improve the rights of marginalised groups.
Some Members of Parliament (MP) present were Hon Helen Adjoa Ntosu, MP for Krachi East, Honorable Kobina Mensah Woyome, MP for South Tongu, Honorable Solomon Kuyon, MP for Krachi Nchumuru, Honorable Wisdom Gidisu, MP for Krachi West, and MP for Afram Plains North Constituency, Hon.
