RTU facing GFA ban after using unregistered players in 8-1 thrashing by Dreams FC

Real Tamale United (RTU) are set to face severe sanctions from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after it was revealed that the club fielded unregistered players in their 8-1 thrashing by Dreams FC on Wednesday.

RTU’s registered players boycotted the match due to six months of unpaid salaries. In a desperate move to avoid forfeiting the game, RTU’s Chief Executive Zakaria Safianu reportedly recruited players from Division Two sides, including Galaxy FC.

This makeshift team were overwhelmed by Dreams FC, leading to a record defeat at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu.

The situation worsened when it emerged that Lord Adabo, the player credited with RTU’s only goal, did not even make the trip to Dawu. This revelation has further fueled the outrage and criticism directed at RTU.

“I am not the player who scored the RTU goal against Dreams FC today. I am currently in Tamale and I didn’t play any game today. I’ve seen on social media that I scored a goal but all I can say is that there’s only one Adabo in RTU and I’m in Tamale,” Adabo told Promise Radio.

The GFA is expected to take stringent action against RTU, with potential penalties including a lifetime ban from all competitions. The use of unregistered players not only violates league regulations but also undermines the integrity of the competition.
