The rise of Vision FC: A 24-year climb to the Ghana Premier League

A fresh face is set to join the Ghana Premier League next season after consistent hard work and determination.

Vision Football Club’s journey to the top tier of Ghanaian football is a tale of perseverance and steady climb through the ranks. Their recent promotion marks a significant milestone in the club’s history.

Founded in 1999 as Eleven Strangers, the club was renamed Vision Football Club in 2001. It entered Division Three in 2007, incorporating graduated U-17 players.

Vision FC’s ascent began in 2009 when they qualified for the Greater Accra Regional Second Division, finishing fourth in the 2009-10 season. They won their zone in 2010-11 and 2011-12, earning promotion to Division One.

Despite bringing in Serbian coaches, the club struggled to secure Premier League promotion. Their focus persisted on talent development but were rewarded with participation in the 2010-11 F.A Cup being a highlight.

In 2023, under Hamza Obeng Mohammed’s leadership, Vision FC finally achieved Premier League promotion. The team topped Zone 3 with an impressive goal difference, scoring 46 and conceding 26. Hamza Obeng Mohammed, the former Hearts of Oak assistant coach, details their success

“It was all about planning, from day one the way we planned, I’m talking about the board, the management as well as the playing body, we all stick to one plan and then we were able to be go with our motive. By the end of the season we had to be on top, and we were able to win.

“Looking at the games, we were playing game after game, so any match there is a new approach we play with. So, whenever we go in, we go with our plan and if it doesn’t work we take it like that and move on to our next game. So, it was a proper plan that led us to win,” he told 3Sports.

As they prepare for their debut Premier League season, Vision FC has appointed Nana Kwaku Agyemang, former Ghana U17 assistant coach, to lead the technical team. Despite his limited top-flight experience, Agyemang is optimistic about the upcoming season

“It doesn’t matter whether we are playing the top guns or whether we are playing the so-called lower teams, we are not looking at that but we are bringing something new and we want Ghana to support Vision.

“We want Ghanaians to come to Vision and feel they are being entertained such that their monies they paid to come watch the games are worth it and that Vision is going to change the face of Ghana football,” the new coach stated.

With unwavering support from President Michael Osekre, Vision FC aims to make a lasting impact in Ghana’s top-tier football.
