Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston, has stated that his team is prepared for their opening game in the WAFU B U-17 Championship.

The championship is being held in Ghana, with all matches scheduled at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, allowing the young players to enjoy home support.

The team has undergone rigorous preparation, having participated in the UEFA U-16 International Development Tournament in Russia. After an initial loss to the hosts, Ghana rebounded strongly by defeating Serbia and Kazakhstan convincingly.

Ghana’s first opponent in the tournament will be the Ivory Coast. According to Kingston, the boys are excited and eager to make a good impression. “You can see from the boys that they are willing, they can’t wait to have their first game, especially in front of Ghanaians,” he said.

Kingston emphasised the importance of focusing on the task ahead. “Immediately we finished the game against Kazakhstan, we put it in their head that this is over,” he stated.

“Now the most important tournament is coming up. We are working and no one is stepping off the treadmill. We are on the treadmill because we have a mission.”

The WAFU B U-17 Championship, which serves as a qualification for the U-17 Cup of Nations, will take place from May 15 to May 28, 2024, in Accra.
