We must reclaim our environment from ravages of Galamsey – Otumfuo

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has emphasized once more the urgent need to protect the nation’s ecology from the ongoing illicit mining, often known as ‘galamsey’.
He said immediate action is necessary to address the rate at which these ‘galamseyers’ deplete the nation’s forest reserves and water resources.
Otumfuo says lands that have been destroyed by galamsey activities mostly orchestrated by the greed of few persons in power.
Speaking at the grand durbar of the ‘Akwasidaekɛseɛ’ for the commemoration of his 25th Anniversary on the golden stool at the Manhyia Palace Sunday, May 12, 2024, the Asantehene indicated that tackling the issue of galamsey has become the topmost priority the nation needs to look at.
“Education remains our priority and probably, an even higher priority must be the reclamation of our environment from the ravages of galamsey. We cannot be the generation that destroyed the most precious heritage bequeath to us by our forefathers to satisfy the greed of a few miscreants. For whatever it takes, we must defeat this scourge,” the Asantehene stated.

Asantehene also urged the country’s entrepreneurs to be strengthened and emphasized the necessity for Ghanaians to expand the nation’s economy.
“The greatest challenge our nation is facing is to redouble effort to grow our economy. Governments may come and go but the nation remains a democratic nation and they must look to their entrepreneurs for development.
“That is why we will continue to encourage the entrepreneurs to show their readiness to place their money where their mouth is and invest more in the country of their birth,” he said.
As Ghana prepares for voting, he also exhorted the populace to abstain doing anything that would derail the democratic process.
